Dear lovers of words and African arts, dear readers and art enthusiasts,

It is with immense joy and great pride that I take on the role of patron for this first edition of FILAA, the International Festival of African Books and Arts, taking place in Lausanne from 20 to 23 August 2026. The theme of this edition is: “Diversity and African literary creation: Africa’s plural voices.”

Beyond an invitation to travel, books and art are also bridges to others and boundless spaces of freedom. They help awaken awareness, especially among younger generations. They also support social causes that can influence the world in which we live.

In a global context where everything moves quickly, this festival offers an enchanted pause. It is an opportunity to take time, turn pages, be amazed and, above all, meet those who bring these stories to life: writers, illustrators, artists and many others.

Whether you are avid readers of novels, emerging readers, seasoned connoisseurs of African art or simply enthusiasts, come and wander, exchange ideas and let yourselves be surprised. I wish you wonderful literary and artistic discoveries, and many beautiful moments of sharing.

Enjoy the festival!

Véronique TADJO
